Reflections and Projections

beta 6 release end of this week.

Well, thanks to Derek's sharp eyes, we've managed to weed out a few more bugs, and now all that remains is some minor testing from us to make sure there are no show-stopper bugs, and then on Sat (12 May) I will release beta 6.

Please note that we have not yet managed to fix the CCLI SongSelect problem. That was a hack at best, and now CCLI have changed their authentication method on the SongSelect, which means that we can no longer log in. We're gonna have a look at that "bug" in the release candidates, but Derek and I are leaning toward just leaving it broken until the next version of openlp.org. Then we'll have a look at it again.

Translation is working!

Many thanks to Derek for his sharp eyes! Derek had another glance over my code and spotted a few things, and managed to get the translation working. I'm now busy cleaning up the code, finishing it off, and hopefully should be releasing beta 6 later this coming week.

openlp.org 1.0 beta 6 contains the last of the new features. After beta 6 we will be releasing release candidate 1, and from there we have maybe 1 or 2 more release candidates, and then it's 1.0 final! I'm looking forward to releasing version 1 and I know you are too!

Thanks for supporting our project!

beta 6 glitches

Well, we're still working on beta 6. It's almost there... I implemented the internationalization, but to my dismay it's not working. I'm going to look into it further to see if I can work out what's wrong. So hopefully, if I can figure that out soon, we can have beta 6 out by the end of this week, next week the latest.

Thanks also to a post in the forums, we think we might have solved the CCLI SongSelect login problem. We're gonna also be looking at fixing that this week. Derek has also managed to pick up another 2 bugs and has fixed one of them in the mean time.

Like I think I mentioned in my previous blog post, we're going to RC1 next release, so that's gonna call for intense testing. So get your testing gear out, and pile into beta 6 and RC1 when they are released.

beta 6 almost out

Howzit Folks,

Beta 6 is almost upon us. I'm just trying to find some time to finish off the last few things. Some of the bugs from beta 5 are gonna be carried over to beta 6, because we haven't been able to solve them yet. There are also a few more new features.

Our next release is RC1 - the first release candidate. We're hoping to resolve the remaining bugs, and any new ones from beta 6 from now on. Please note that this also means that there will be no more new features. We have made our feature freeze final, and any new features will be added in version 1.1, the development version of 1.2, which will be commenced once we have released 1.0 final.

I'm really excited to be bringing  out our first ever proper version of openlp.org, version 1.0. Thanks for sticking with us, and bearing with us on this long road to 1.0!

The Facebook revolution

Howdy folks,

Yes, I have been sucked into FaceBook, YASNS [Yet Another Social Networking Site]. So, since I have been dragged into it, I decided to make the best of it and created an openlp.org group . You're welcome to join!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Some new things... some old things...

Howdy folks,

Some new things: Well, we're now using activeCollab as our main project management tool. It's much easier and less confusing to use than SourceForget.net , and it helps us keep track of everything that's going on. I've even changed the "Project Page" link to point to our activeCollab instance. If you'd like to check out what's happening, log in with username/password guest/guest. You should be able to view everything.

Some old things: Progress on beta 6 is good. We've actually introduced a few new things in it that we decided couldn't wait, and would need to be in 1.0 final in any case to make it a decent software release.

That's all from my side for now.

God bless!

New version of the Bible Creator out

Well, it seems that my little database creator tool had a little bug in it, but I have now resolved it. You can download the latest version from the download page on SourceForge.net.

Keeping track of development

If you'd like to keep track of the development of openlp.org, see where we are and what we're up to, you can go to our project management tool at http://project.openlp.org/. Login with the username/password combination of guest/guest and you'll be able to see the task lists and milestones and things we have set for ourselves.

Just remember though when it comes to the dates of milestones, it doesn't mean we will actually stick to those dates we put in there, they are just a guideline for us, a goal to attempt to achieve. We all work and have families, and so we try to fit openlp.org in where we can.

Ooops!! My bad!

I must admit to those frustrated users who installed beta 5 only to find out that it wiped out their song collection, that it is kinda my fault. I had not checked the installation script (which I got from Tim originally) to see what it was doing. Also, I noticed that I had not included the proper database with the public domain songs in it, so you all got my little test database. My humblest apologies!

So I have updated the installer, and I will be uploading it in the next week (probably from work, where we have a nice fat pipe onto the Internet, rather than my dialup at home).

In other news, Derek and I have already fixed a number of bugs that you mentioned. Please keep those bug reports coming in. I'm also about to start working on the internationalization ("i18n" for short) functionality and hope to get that underway shortly.

Also, good news for those who run openlp.org in a limited user account, we have started making provision for that too. You will be able to run openlp.org in a limited user account, and each user account on the computer will have their own settings, although all users will have the same database, themes, etc. Of course you'll still need administrator access to install openlp.org, but that's normal for any other application as well.

I'm very pleased with the progress we have made so far, and Derek is doing a fantastic job, so well done to him!

Oh, and as usual, we're always on the look out for helping hands. We need documentation done and we need a few more people in our support team, and of course more developers are always welcome. Please use the Contact Us page to let us know.

God bless!

Expanding the support team

Hi folks!

openlp.org is once again looking for volunteers to help out!

We are looking for a couple of people to join our support team. You must know openlp.org quite well, regard yourself a power user, and be able to troubleshoot problems with Windows and Office.

If you'd like to help out, please contact David, the head of support, at support[at]openlp.org.
