w00t! Revision 1000!
I'm proud to announce that OpenLP 2.0 reached revision 1000 on Sunday evening. That means that there are over 1000 features, improvements or bugfixes in OpenLP 2.0.
One of the latest new features that was added to OpenLP is a Song Import Wizard. Those who downloaded and installed Alpha 2 "Hairy Habakkak" would have noticed that there was a Song Import Wizard in there, but it didn't seem to work. This is because it was simply a shell, and had no actual functionality. I'm glad to say that this has been changed, and in Alpha 3 "Dashing Daniel" the Song Import Wizard will work.
PC-BSD users rejoice!
I'm very happy to tell everyone who uses PC-BSD and is looking for free church presentation software for PC-BSD that OpenLP is now available for that platform as well. Kris Moore of PC-BSD has kindly packaged OpenLP for us, and you can find the package on pbiDIR.com. Many thanks to Kris for helping get OpenLP onto another platform!
OpenLP 2.0 Release Cycle
As some folks might have noticed, we released OpenLP 1.9.2 "Hairy Habakkak" (aka Alpha 2) about three months after we released our first alpha release. The more adventurous folk might have even noticed that on the developers' wiki, the rest of the releases are all aimed to be about 3 months apart.
While we aren't 100% set to those timelines, we have mostly decided to get a new release out every 3 months, for a few reasons:
Adding FreeBSD to the mix
Thanks to some hard work from Thomas Abthorpe (assisted by Jon Tibble) we now have OpenLP Alpha 1 in the FreeBSD ports! You can find it in the ports under "multimedia/py-openlp".
Two Quick Converters
A while ago I wrote two scripts as part of the OpenLP 2.0 rewrite, to convert the openlp.org 1.0 songs database and bible files to OpenLP 2.0 format. Unfortunately these scripts were Linux/Unix-only until recently, because I couldn't get the SQLite 2.8 module for Python compiled on Windows.
OpenLP 2.0 Alpha 1 released!
Hi folks,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the first alpha version of OpenLP 2.0! We've been working on this for a long time (since September 2008 if I have my dates correct) and decided to give everyone a taste of what we've been working on.
As we've mentioned before, OpenLP 2.0 is cross-platform. This means that it runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and even FreeBSD! However, since OpenLP 2.0 is a complete rewrite, and this particular release is an Alpha, there are a few things to be aware of...
Upcoming ALPHA Release of OpenLP 2.0

Hi folks,
It is with great pleasure I announce the release date for the first ALPHA version of OpenLP 2.0: Sunday 28 March 2010.
What is an alpha release? Well, it's a release to say, "hey, we're not yet done, but you can look at what we've done so far!" Some features are missing, some are incomplete, and some are buggy, but you can look around and play around!
Calling all translators!
So you've been hearing all this noise about OpenLP 2.0 coming out, you've seen screenshots, and you're wondering if this new version will be available in your language. Perhaps you're wanting to contribute, but you're not a "computer person"?
OpenOffice.org Impress & OpenLP - destined to be together!

As you can see our OpenOffice.org Impress integration seems to be working pretty well. This was just a small test I did this morning to see how well it worked, and I was pleasantly surprised. Well done to gushie for all his hard work on getting this working!
Revision 700 and the Better Bible Plugin
Well folks, we've reached another milestone with OpenLP 2.0 - revision 700. And not only have we reached a big revision, the Bibles plugin is now better than before!
The importer has been reworked, both interface-wise and code-wise. It features a Wizard style interface, well known in computer interfaces these days, making it faster and easier to use the importer. The code has been changed fairly dramatically now as well, to facilitate a pluggable import system, where developers can easily add new importers with little hacking.
